Job summary

Savista is seeking an Eligibility Specialist 2 to support patients across multiple locations in the United States. You will conduct eligibility screenings and guide patients through Medicaid, Medicare, disability, and hospital charity care applications to help them gain access to needed services.

The role requires compassionate, clear communication in English and Spanish, with the ability to manage a busy caseload and maintain HIPAA-compliant records.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Proficiency in English and Spanish.
• 2+ years in a customer-facing role (healthcare/financial counseling preferred).

Responsibilities

• Perform advanced eligibility screenings to identify coverage options and financial assistance.
• Contact patients by phone to complete screenings and documentation.
• Guide patients through Medicaid, Medicare, disability, and hospital charity care applications with timely submissions.
• Collaborate with hospital staff and government agencies to resolve eligibility issues.
• Manage a high caseload while meeting deadlines and quality KPIs.
• Explain financial responsibilities clearly and empathetically.
• Maintain confidential records in HIPAA-compliant manner.
• Document, track, and report patient information across multiple systems.
• Provide limited staffing coverage at nearby locations as needed.
• Complete special projects as assigned.

What You’ll Do

• Serve as a patient advocate, conduct advanced inpatient and outpatient eligibility screenings to identify appropriate coverage options and financial assistance resource.
• Engage patients via phone outreach to facilitate their cooperation and support the completion of required screenings and documentation.
• Guide patients through complex application processes for programs such as Medicaid, Medicare, Disability, and hospital charity care, ensuring timely submission of accurate documentation.
• Collaborate and build relationships across teams, acting as a liaison between patients, hospital staff, and government agencies to secure coverage and resolve eligibility issues.
• Manage a high case load effectively, prioritizing tasks, following up on pending applications, and meeting deadlines while also adhering to productivity and quality expectations (KPIs).
• Communicate with clarity and empathy, explaining financial responsibilities and assistance options in ways that patients can understand.
• Maintain accurate and confidential records, ensuring compliance with HIPAA and organizational policies.
• Use multiple systems and tools to document, track, and report on patient information.
• Support operational needs, including providing limited staffing coverage at nearby hospital locations as needed.
• Complete special projects, as assigned.

What We’re Looking For

• High school diploma or GED
• Proficiency in English and Spanish
• 2+ years of experience in a customer-facing role (financial counseling, healthcare, social services, or similar environments preferred).
• Basic knowledge of state and federal assistance programs such as Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security Disability.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities and maintain accuracy and attention to detail.
• Tech savvy with ability to efficiently manage and navigate multiple software systems, applications, and platforms simultaneously.
• Ability to explain complex information clearly and empathetically
• Comfort working in fast-paced environments with changing priorities
• Genuine care for patients’ needs and concerns with ability to establish a rapport with patients through empathetic communication.
• Dependable, solution oriented professional, who collaborates effectively with patients, hospital partners, and internal teams and colleagues
• Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license.
• Occasional local travel may be required based on operational needs.
• May service a worksite that only require one Eligibility Specialist.
• Colleague must be able to work independently.
