Job summary

The New York City Department of Buildings is seeking an Inspector (Elevators) to perform technical inspections and assess safety and conformity of elevators, escalators, and related devices under NYC Construction Codes and Department rules.

Under general supervision, you will respond to incidents, issue violations, witness tests, maintain records and testify when required. Valid NY driver license and residency considerations apply; 55-a program is noted.

Qualifications

• Five years of full-time experience in elevator installation, maintenance or inspection.
• Three years plus related education or sixty 60 credits towards a degree in engineering or related fields.
• Completion of an apprentice program in elevator maintenance/inspection with related experience.
• A professional engineer license or registered architect license may be required.
• Equivalent education/experience to the above requirements.

Responsibilities

• Perform technical inspections of elevators, escalators, and related devices for conformity with NYC Construction Code, Department rules, and approved plans and specifications.
• Respond to incidents, investigate complaints, and witness safety tests.
• Issue violations, summonses and stop work orders; verify licenses of onsite workers.
• Testify as needed at ECB, depositions, and court; maintain records and reports.
