Job summary

The State of Tennessee is seeking a mid-level Elevator Inspector in Crossville, TN, to perform routine elevator inspections under supervision. This role is located in the Elevator Unit of the Workplace Regulations and Compliance Division, within the Department of Labor & Workforce Development.

Under supervision, you will learn to inspect elevators, escalators, and related devices, ensuring compliance with safety standards and processing inspection data.

Qualifications

• Education equivalent to high school or GED with two years of full-time elevator-related work.
• Successful completion of the Tennessee Elevator Inspector Licensing Exam within one year of hire date.
• Experience inspecting or constructing passenger or freight elevators, escalators, and moving walks to meet safety regulations.

Responsibilities

• Learns to inspect elevators, escalators, and other lifting-and-conveying devices for compliance with safety regulations.
• Learns to examine electrical and mechanical features of elevator installations for conformance to codes.
• Learns to process information from inspections and apply it to codes.
• Learns to communicate with customers and external sources as needed.
• Learns to develop cooperative working relationships and handle complaints professionally.
• All other duties as required.
