POSITION SUMMARY:
We are seeking Long-Term Substitute Teacherfor the 2026/2027 school year to serve students in grade 1. The ideal candidate will create a nurturing, inclusive, and engaging learning environment; implement high-quality instruction aligned to curriculum standards; and support the academic, social, and emotional development of all students. Teachers must demonstrate a commitment to equity, student-centered learning, and ongoing professional growth.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Deliver standards-based instruction in core subject areas including literacy, math, science, and social studies
• Create a supportive, positive, and inclusive classroom culture that promotes learning for all students
• Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, including English learners and students with IEPs/504s
• Utilize formative and summative assessment data to inform instruction and track student progress
• Establish clear routines, expectations, and procedures to maintain a safe and orderly classroom
• Collaborate with grade-level teams, specialists, and support staff to plan and implement effective instruction
• Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and classroom activities
• Participate in school-based teams, professional development, and data-driven planning sessions
• Integrate technology to enhance teaching and student learning
• Support the social-emotional development of students through positive behavior strategies and responsive practices
• Maintain accurate student records and complete required reports and documentation

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

• Strong understanding of child development and age-appropriate instructional practices
• Ability to create and implement engaging lessons that support a range of learners
• Effective classroom management and organization skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Knowledge of curriculum standards and assessment strategies
• Experience with culturally responsive teaching and inclusive practices

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Connecticut State Department of Education Elementary Certification (013)
• Bachelor's Degree in Education or related field (Master's preferred)
• Experience working in a diverse, urban school setting preferred
• Familiarity with instructional technology and digital learning tools
