Job summary

Aransas Pass ISD in Texas seeks a Dyslexia Teacher to provide targeted instructional materials to dyslexia students and ensure compliance with state and federal dyslexia laws.

You will lead the coordination and delivery of services, design and model lessons, and support campuses with program implementation, staff development, technology use, and parent outreach.

Identifying dyslexic students through diagnostic tests and interpreting results will guide instruction and district improvement efforts.

Qualifications

• Education/Certification:
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
• Valid Texas teaching certificate (EC-6)
• SPED Certified-preferred (must complete within a year of being hired)

Description/Notes

Primary Purpose: Provide dyslexia students with appropriate instructional materials designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical and social growth. Enable Students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society. Provide leadership in the coordination and delivery of services to dyslexia students, which will include designing, planning and modeling lessons. Provide instructional support to campuses in implementing programs designed to meet the needs of students with dyslexia. Assist the district in staff development, technology implementation and parent outreach related to dyslexia. Identify dyslexic students by administering and interpreting diagnostic tests.

Knowledge and Skills

• Advanced knowledge of and compliance with federal and state dyslexia and reading disorder laws.

• Knowledge of the development and implementation of the Individual Education Plan (IEP) process
• Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills

• Ability to effectively interpret policy, procedures and student data such as diagnostic test results, state assessments scoring, etc.

Experience

• Minimum three years classroom teaching experience. Formal dyslexia training preferred.
• Knowledge of the Texas Dyslexia Handbook; reading teacher experience; best practices in dyslexia curriculum and instruction.
