Elementary Program Teacher Job Announcement

About Us: Roseville Community School is a small, progressive learning center committed to nurturing confident, curious, and compassionate learners through a play-based, inquiry-driven approach to education. With intentionally small class sizes (12–14 students) and a focus on individualized learning, we create an environment where children are deeply known, supported, and celebrated. We are a community-based independent school that primarily supports home school families.

Our educators are passionate about creating a joyful and engaging classroom experience where children learn by doing, explore their own questions, and build meaningful relationships with peers and adults. We believe in teaching the whole child—socially, emotionally, and academically—and view strong family-school partnerships as essential.

Position Overview:

We are seeking an experienced and innovative Elementary Program Teacher to join our collaborative team. The ideal candidate will be excited by student-centered, hands-on learning and ready to co-create a dynamic curriculum that meets the developmental and academic needs of diverse learners.

Responsibilities Include:

Curriculum & Instruction

Design and implement integrated, hands-on curriculum in language arts, math, science, and social studies

Develop inquiry-based, child-centered lessons that build on student interests and developmental stages

Provide a balanced math program that fosters real-world problem-solving, conceptual understanding, and skill-building

Incorporate play-based and project-based learning throughout the day

Integrate social-emotional learning as a core part of the classroom experience

Complete a scope and sequence outline for the school year that can be flexible throughout the year depending on classroom needs

Classroom Community & Environment

Create a warm, inclusive, and respectful classroom culture where every child feels seen, heard, and valued

Encourage independence, creativity, resilience, and critical thinking in students

Support conflict resolution, self-regulation, and empathy-building among children

Organize and maintain an engaging, beautiful, and responsive classroom environment that provided opportunities for deep learning

Family & School Collaboration

Communicate regularly with families about student progress, classroom experiences, and developmental milestones

Create a monthly newsletter for families detailing the happenings in the classroom and class projects. A template for this can be provided.

Collaborate with colleagues to plan interdisciplinary projects, enrichment activities, and special events

Participate in family conferences, community gatherings, and school-wide events

Support a strong home-school partnership aligned with RCS’s mission and values

Professional Responsibilities

Participate in weekly staff meetings, planning sessions, and professional development opportunities

Document student learning through observations, photos, portfolios, and student work

Attend and support field trips, lunch/snack supervision, and open play periods

Contribute actively to the life of the school, including occasional evening and weekend events

Show openness to feedback and a commitment to reflective practice and continuous growth

Additional Qualities & Skills Important at RCS

Understanding of child development and progressive education philosophies (including Alfie Kohn, Bev Bos, John Dewey)

Flexibility, adaptability, and creativity in responding to students’ evolving needs

Strong communication, organization, and time-management skills

Commitment to equity, inclusion, and cultural responsiveness
