Job summary

Sumter School District is seeking a Paraprofessional (SPED) for Manchester Elementary to support instructional goals and student progress. This role requires assisting the classroom teacher and ensuring a positive learning environment during the 185‑day school year.

The position emphasizes collaboration with teachers, implementing accommodations, and small-group reading and math support. Prior elementary experience is preferred; credentials must meet district requirements.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree or higher, or 60 college credits toward a degree.
• Passing Praxis Para Pro exam or equivalent.
• Minimum of three years of elementary school experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Under the direction of the classroom teacher, helps to maintain and oversee a positive learning environment.
• Assists the teacher in implementing appropriate daily learning experiences aligned with school and district practices.
• Collaborates with the teacher to inform curricular planning and classroom environment decisions.
• Assists in providing unique or special accommodations for students.
• Promotes a safe, secure, healthy learning environment.
• Works cooperatively with others in a respectful manner.
• Provides individualized instruction to identified students and small groups in reading and mathematics.
• Plans instructional activities meeting students' needs, interests, and abilities in reading and mathematics.
• Advises teachers about students' progress during interventions.
• Retrieves performance data to help evaluate intervention effectiveness and progress.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
