Responsibilities

  • Work with students who have socioemotional and mental health needs or learning disabilities.
  • Assess students’ skills to determine needs and develop teaching plans.
  • Plan, organize, and assign activities specific to each student’s abilities.
  • Teach and mentor students in class, small groups, and one-on-one.
  • Assess progress and adjust instructional techniques as needed.
  • Establish classroom structure and behavior management per school policy.
  • Provide consultation to teachers on adaptations, equipment, and interventions.
  • Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and track progress.
  • Coordinate delivery of special education services within each student’s IEP.
  • Supervise and mentor other teachers who work with special education students.
  • Meet with parents and administrators to discuss updates and changes to IEPs.
  • Schedule team meetings and collaborate with child study team members.
  • Collaborate with educational professionals and community service providers regarding student needs.
