Job summary

Job Description:

As an Elementary Special Education Teacher at Douglas Elementary School, you will play a crucial role in providing specialized instruction and support to students with disabilities. You will collaborate with general education teachers, support staff, and families to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) that meet the unique academic, social, and emotional needs of each student. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Planning and delivering instruction tailored to students' individualized education plans (IEPs) in a variety of academic subjects.
  • Differentiating instruction to accommodate diverse learning styles, abilities, and needs.
  • Providing direct instruction, small group instruction, and one-on-one support as needed.
  • Monitoring student progress and adjusting instructional strategies as necessary to ensure academic growth and success.
  • Collaborating with general education teachers to modify curriculum and assessments to meet the needs of students with disabilities.
  • Maintaining accurate records of student progress, IEP goals, and communication with parents and other stakeholders.
  • Participate in IEP meetings, team meetings, and professional development opportunities to support continuous improvement and best practices in special education.
  • Develop learning strategies and modifications to be implemented both through team teaching and during small group instruction.
  • Have a positive attitude and commitment to a high-quality education program.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education or related field.
  • Valid Michigan teaching certification with Special Education edorsement.
  • Experience working with students with disabilities in a school setting (student teaching experience may be considered).
  • Knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and best practices.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to differentiate instruction and adapt teaching strategies to meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Commitmehnt to fostering and inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students.
