Job summary

St James School District R1 is seeking an Elementary Special Education Resource Room Paraprofessional to support students with disabilities under a special education teacher and administrator. You will perform clerical tasks, assist in instruction, and help monitor behavior in a school setting.

This at-will, annual position requires a high school diploma, 36 college hours or paraprofessional testing, and a sub teacher certification for certain buildings.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• 36 college hours or passed Paraprofessional Assessment.
• Must hold a paraprofessional/sub teacher certification (Title 1 buildings).
• Experience working with children with special needs preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform clerical duties such as preparing daily assignment sheets, tests, filing, typing, copying and grading student work.
• Assist in small group or individual instruction.
• Assist the teacher by monitoring student behavior and on-task time.
• Assist students with personal care as needed on an individual basis.
• Participate in professional development activities as necessary to meet district and state requirements for in-service.
• Comply with federal, state, local, and Board of Education policies and regulations.
• Any other duties as assigned by the special education teacher with the approval of the Director of Special Services.

CLASSIFIED POSITION DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Elementary Special Education Resource Room Paraprofessional

REPORTS TO: SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER AND ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT

High School Diploma or equivalent. 36 college hours or has passed the Paraprofessional Assessment, MUST hold a sub teacher certification. (required for Schoolwide Title 1 buildings only). Experience and training in working with children with special needs is desired.

PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

1. Perform clerical duties such as preparing daily assignment sheets, tests, filing, typing, copying and grading student work.
2. Assist in small group or individual instruction.
3. Assist the teacher by monitoring student behavior and on-task time.
4. Assist students with personal care as needed on an individual basis.
5. Participate in professional development activities as necessary to meet district and state requirements for in-service.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Employment is on an annual basis. This is an at-will position. The Superintendent of Schools makes employment recommendations in April of each year for the next fiscal year. The final decision is made by the Board of Education. Salary is based on the Classified Salary Schedule adopted annually by the Board of Education.

EVALUATION

An annual evaluation is conducted by the supervising special education teacher each year using the evaluation method adopted by the Board of Education.
