Denison Community School District is seeking an Elementary Special Education Instructional Associate for Broadway Elementary (3rd–5th grades) in Denison, Iowa. Qualifications

• High school diploma required.
• Ability to work with administration, teachers, staff and students.
• Act as liaison between the public and the school to promote the image of the district.
• Assist students with physical tasks such as putting on/taking off outerwear, moving, toileting, etc.
• Hears students in recitation, reading, and other tasks with guidance but not teaching.
• Perform simple errands for students (pencils, lunch trays, etc.).
• Work under supervision of the special education teacher with small groups to reinforce material.
• Accompany students to the office or nurse as needed.
• Maintain supportive, non-intrusive relationship with students.
• Serve as resource to substitute teachers and participate in evaluation teams.
• Supervise playground and organize group activities.

Responsibilities

• Assists with the supervision of students during drills, assemblies, play periods, and field trips.
• Keeps bulletin boards and classroom displays up to date.
• Reads to students and assists with reading activities.
• Assists with lunch, snack, cleanup, and wash-up routines.
• Guides independent study and enrichment work assigned by the teacher.
• Distributes and collects workbooks, papers, and materials for instruction.
• Assists with testing and makes up work as assigned by the teacher.
• Alerts the regular teacher to any problem or special information about a student.
• Maintains ethical behavior and confidentiality about students.
