Job summary

Charter One, in partnership with American Leadership Academy - Lexington Elementary, is accepting applications for a Special Education Teacher Assistant for the 2026-2027 school year. The role supports SPED services under the supervision of the SPED Teacher and requires a background check.

The responsibilities include assisting in implementing IEP goals, supporting instruction, maintaining a positive classroom, observing progress, and communicating with families as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Background check required.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the implementation of IEPs for students with disabilities, following specific goals and objectives outlined by the SPED Teacher.
• Help the SPED Teacher with delivering instruction in various subjects, adapting materials and activities to meet the diverse needs of students.
• Help maintain a positive and orderly classroom environment, promoting respectful behavior and encouraging student engagement.
• Support students in participating in learning activities, providing one-on-one or small group assistance as needed.
• Observe and document student performance and behavior, providing feedback to the SPED Teacher regarding individual student progress.
• Work closely with the SPED Teacher, general education teachers, and other support staff to ensure a cohesive approach to student learning.
• Encourage social interactions among students, helping them build friendships and navigate social situations within the classroom and school environment.
• Assist in preparing and organizing instructional materials, resources, and equipment for classroom activities.
• Maintain open lines of communication with parents or guardians regarding student progress and any concerns that may arise.
• Other duties as assigned.
