Job summary

Beginnings, Inc. is seeking an Elementary Science Teacher to deliver engaging, inquiry-based science instruction aligned to NGSS for students in grades K-6. Summary

The Elementary Science Teacher is responsible for delivering engaging, inquiry‑based science instruction aligned to the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) for students in Kindergarten through Grade 6. The teacher will foster scientific thinking, curiosity, problem‑solving, and hands‑on learning experiences that support student achievement and a strong foundation in STEM education. This teacher will collaborate closely with classroom teachers and instructional leaders to integrate science instruction across content areas and will co‑teach in select grade levels to support high‑quality instructional practices and student learning outcomes.

Principal Responsibilities
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver high‑quality, standards‑based science instruction aligned to NGSS for students in Kindergarten through Grade 6.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to facilitate NGSS‑aligned hands‑on, inquiry‑based science lessons, experiments, and activities that promote scientific investigation, critical thinking, collaboration, problem‑solving, observation, and curiosity.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse academic, linguistic, developmental, and learning needs of all students.
  • Integrate literacy, mathematics, technology, and innovative teaching strategies into science instruction when appropriate to strengthen student engagement and deepen understanding.
  • Utilize a variety of instructional strategies, assessments, and educational resources to support student learning, engagement, and achievement.
  • Establish and maintain a safe, positive, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment that encourages curiosity, exploration, open communication, and respectful teacher‑student relationships.
  • Assess and evaluate and monitor student performance using formative and summative assessment tools; maintain accurate records of achievement; and use data to adjust instructional practices and improve student outcomes.
  • Communicate student progress with families and school staff through timely feedback, interim reports, report cards, conferences, and other appropriate communication methods.
  • Ensure the proper use, organization, maintenance, and safety of science materials, equipment, and laboratory procedures.
  • Promote equitable access to high‑quality STEM learning opportunities for all students.

Requirements
  • Valid Connecticut Pre‑K‑Grade 6 teaching certification and experience teaching elementary science and implementing NGSS‑aligned instruction preferred.
  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of the Next Generation Science Standards, current science education trends, and best practices in elementary science instruction.
  • Knowledge of inquiry‑based and project‑based learning strategies.
  • Experience collaborating and co‑teaching with classroom teachers preferred.
  • Strong classroom management, communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
  • Commitment to fostering inclusive, student‑centered learning environments.
  • Passion for science education and STEM learning.
