Job summary

The Anchorage School District is seeking elementary school teachers to join a pool of qualified applicants for upcoming openings. Teachers create a flexible, supportive education program and class environment that fosters learning and personal growth. They provide instruction at the appropriate grade level and build rapport with students, parents and staff.

The teacher reports to the site principal and is evaluated accordingly. This position requires a valid Alaska educator certificate.

Qualifications

• A valid Alaska initial, professional, or master teaching certificate.
• Evidence of content knowledge shown by: a posted degree in the content area of this position; or a posted minor in the content area of this position; or Praxis scores; or a certificate endorsement.
• Educators teaching in a Kindergarten through 3rd grade class must meet requirements for the Alaska Reads Act.

Responsibilities

• Describe their philosophy of education and how it relates to their practice.
• Establish standards of pupil behavior to create an effective learning atmosphere.
• Develop lesson plans and provide individualized and small-group instruction.
• Translate lesson plans into developmentally appropriate learning experiences.
• Use current technology to enhance instruction and keep records.
• Assess student learning and communicate progress to students, parents and staff.
• Collaborate with parents, families, and the community.
