Job summary

Sylvania is seeking a School Counselor for the 2026/2027 school year. The role requires a Master’s Degree in Guidance and Counseling and a valid Michigan secondary teaching certificate with a counseling endorsement.

LPC eligibility is desirable, with experienced elementary counselors encouraged to apply. Responsibilities include providing counseling services to students, collaborating with staff, MTSS participation, and addressing social-emotional and community resource needs.

Qualifications

• Master's Degree in Guidance and Counseling from an accredited institution is required.
• Michigan secondary teaching certificate with counseling endorsement (NT), TSCL, PSCL, or SCL is required.
• LPC eligibility desired.

Responsibilities

• Provide guidance and counseling services to assigned students, including all international students.
• Help staff meet the special needs of students through classroom involvement or joint teacher-counselor-student sessions.
• Make referrals to the MTSS Team.
• Attend MTSS meetings.
• Work with social-emotional issues, substance abuse issues, and community resources.
• Maintain regular and reliable attendance as an essential function of the job.
• Demonstrate knowledge of SEL assessments.
• Maintain required trainings/certificates/approvals and provide documentation to HR before expiration.
• Other duties as assigned.

Education

Master's Degree in Guidance and Counseling

Michigan secondary teaching certificate with counseling endorsement / TSCL / PSCL / SCL

Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) eligibility desired

three years of counseling/teaching experience at elementary level

five years of elementary counseling experience with group guidance

Advanced study in Guidance and Counseling (group guidance, adolescent development)

Training in adolescent development, organizational psychology, curriculum development

Active involvement in guidance and counseling professional organizations
