Job summary

Sylvania is seeking a dedicated District Guidance Counselor to provide comprehensive counseling services to students district-wide. This full-time role collaborates with school staff, parents, and community resources to support academic, social, and emotional development and foster a positive school climate.

The counselor will conduct assessments, provide individual and group sessions, and coordinate with mental health agencies while maintaining confidential records and supporting crisis

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in School Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or related field.
• Valid state certification or licensure as a school counselor.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in a school counseling role or related field.
• Strong understanding of educational systems, student development, and mental health issues.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to build rapport with students, families, and staff.
• Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
• Knowledge of community resources and support services available for students and families.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple responsibilities.
• Commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment for all students.
• Proficiency in using technology and counseling software for records.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement a district-wide guidance program addressing academic, career, and personal/social needs.
• Provide individual and group counseling to students, addressing academic, social, and mental health issues.
• Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and staff to support students in need of resources.
• Conduct assessments to determine needs and develop action plans.
• Facilitate workshops for students, parents, and staff on wellness and resilience.
• Maintain confidential records of counseling sessions and progress.
• Liaise between the district and community organizations and mental health agencies.
• Stay informed on trends in school counseling and mental health support.
• Participate in district meetings and training to improve student services.
• Support crisis intervention and guidance during emergencies.

Education

Master’s degree in School Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or related field

Valid state certification or licensure as a school counselor

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
