Job summary

Centennial School District No. R-1 is seeking a Secondary School Counselor to promote the academic, social, and emotional well-being of students. The role emphasizes guiding ICAP planning and college and career exploration within a collaborative school setting.

The counselor will provide individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, and consultation with teachers, parents, and administrators. A Colorado license and master’s degree are required for this 10-month position.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Support Students in developing Individualized Career and Academic Plans (ICAP). This includes: Academic Support, College and Career Counseling, and ICAP/senior seminar integration.
• Personal and Social Development: Promote social and emotional skills, provide counseling, foster empathy and inclusivity.
• Individual and Group Counseling (Tier 1 and 2): Conduct individual counseling and lead group sessions on topics like bullying prevention, anger management, or study skills.
• Crisis Intervention: Respond to and support students during crisis, grief, or emergencies, coordinating with staff and resources.
• Collaboration and Consultation: Develop intervention strategies with teachers, administrators, and parents.
• Parent and Community Engagement: Conduct workshops and collaborate with community organizations for student support.
• Data Analysis and Program Evaluation: Use data to assess counseling programs and inform decisions.
• School Record Maintenance and Registration: Maintain records, enrollments, transcripts, and assessments.
• Other Duties: Accomplishes other duties as assigned.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

1. Support Students in developing Individualized Career and Academic Plans (ICAP). This includes:

   1. Academic Support: Assist students in developing academic goals, study skills, and educational plans (ICAP Plans). Provide guidance on course selection, career pathways, concurrent enrollment, work-based learning opportunities, and college readiness. Collaborate with teachers and parents to address academic challenges and enhance student achievement.

   2. College and Career Counseling: Guide students through the college and career exploration process. Offer information on college applications, scholarships, and financial aid. Help students identify their interests, strengths, and career options, providing guidance on future pathways.This includes teaching the senior seminar course.

   3. Support students in developing both an eportfolio and a capstone project as part of their ICAP plan and senior seminar course.

2. Personal and Social Development: Promote the development of students' social and emotional skills. Provide counseling and guidance to address personal issues, emotional challenges, and social conflicts. Foster a positive school climate by promoting empathy, respect, and inclusivity.

3. Individual and Group Counseling (Tier 1 and 2): Conduct individual counseling sessions to address specific student needs such as stress, anxiety, behavior issues, or academic concerns. Lead group counseling sessions on topics like bullying prevention, anger management, or study skills.

4. Crisis Intervention: Respond to and support students during crisis situations, including traumatic events, grief, or emergencies. Collaborate with staff, parents, and community resources to provide immediate support and referrals as needed.

5. Collaboration and Consultation: Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and parents to develop intervention strategies for students. Provide consultation on behavior management, student support plans, and academic accommodations.

6. Parent and Community Engagement: Engage with parents through workshops, seminars, and individual meetings to address concerns and provide resources, including annual graduation requirement, concurrent enrollment, and capstone presentations. Collaborate with community organizations to access external support services for students and families.

7. Data Analysis and Program Evaluation: Collect and analyze data to assess the effectiveness of counseling and academic programs. Use data to inform decision-making and implement evidence-based practices for student success.

8. School Record Maintenance and Registration: Maintain school records for each student including new student enrollments, transfer records requests, permanent records and other records to support school counseling efforts and data collection. Coordinate concurrent enrollment, grade reporting periods, final transcripts, universal screeners, and key college/career related assessments.
