Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and group counseling to support students' academic, social, emotional, and behavioral needs.
  • Assist students in understanding and navigating school culture.
  • Teach conflict resolution, problem-solving, and restorative justice techniques.
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, support staff, parents/guardians, and community agencies.
  • Provide parents with accurate, comprehensive communication regarding student progress and resources.
  • Conduct parent and student conferences as needed.
  • Support students facing family crises and other major life events.
  • Participate in planning and implementing a comprehensive developmental guidance program.
  • Promote parent and family involvement in student success.
  • Maintain confidential counseling records per state laws and district policies.
  • Communicate regularly with school leadership about student needs and support plans.
  • Work with PLCs and grade-level teams to support student achievement.
  • Support MTSS and other intervention strategies.
  • Analyze student data to guide interventions and improve outcomes.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development and continuous improvement.

Position Overview

We are seeking a compassionate and student-focused Elementary School Counselor to support the academic, social, emotional, and behavioral development of elementary students. This role partners with students, families, teachers, administrators, and community resources to create a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment while helping students develop the skills needed for lifelong success.


Responsibilities


  • Provide individual and group counseling to support students' academic, social, emotional, and behavioral needs.

  • Assist students in understanding and navigating school culture.

  • Teach conflict resolution, problem-solving, and restorative justice techniques.

  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, support staff, parents/guardians, and community agencies to support student success.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Michigan Teaching Certificate with Guidance Counselor (NT) endorsement or a Michigan School Guidance Counselor License with the appropriate endorsement and grade level.
