Job summary

New Fairfield Public Schools is seeking a Paraeducator (Elementary) to support students, particularly those with special needs, by assisting teachers and implementing instructional and behavioral supports in an inclusive classroom environment. The position requires at least 1 year of relevant experience and citizenship/residency or work visa.

Salary is $19.67 per hour with comprehensive benefits. The role is full-time with immediate starting date and opportunities for collaboration with staff

Qualifications

• At least 1 year(s) of relevant experience preferred.
• Citizenship, residency or work visa required

Responsibilities

• Works with individual students or small groups in a variety of educational settings.
• Carries out instructional activities as designed by a certified staff member.
• Maintains and records data on student progress as assigned.
• Assists students in following classroom and school rules, routines, and behavioral expectations.
• Monitors testing and provides appropriate accommodations as directed.
• Supports implementation of accommodations and modifications as described in students’ IEPs and 504 Plans.
• Assists in development and implementation of instructional and behavioral strategies for the classroom
• Supervises testing, makeup work, or independent study as assigned by the teacher.
• Scores tests and corrects papers using established answer keys.
• Assists with instructional media, technology, equipment, and materials.
• Prepares instructional materials and supports organization of classroom supplies.
• Helps ensure students’ personal safety and well-being at all times.
• Serves as a source of information for substitute staff.
• Assists in general supervision of students in various areas.
• Maintains confidentiality of student information per policy and FERPA.
• Participates in staff development programs and demonstrates professionalism.
