Job summary

Danbury Public Schools in Connecticut is seeking an Elementary Supervisor of Multilingual Learner Programs to lead K-5 language services and coordinate district-wide ML initiatives.

The role reports to the Curriculum Administrator for Multilingual Learner & World Language Programs, collaborates with district leaders, and directs coaching and professional development to improve multilingual learner outcomes; requires CT certifications and master's degree.

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Education is required.
  • Connecticut certification is required: 092 Intermediate Administration and Supervision; 111 TESOL; 902 Bilingual content certification; 013 Elementary K-6 or 305 Elementary Grades 1-6 or equivalent.
  • Two to three years of demonstrated leadership experience in educational settings.
  • Demonstrated commitment to multilingual learner achievement, language acquisition, and culturally responsive practices.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in employee selection, hiring and orientation of new hires.

Overview

The position of Elementary Supervisor of Multilingual Learner Programs is part of a team that includes two additional elementary supervisors in the areas of STEM and Literacy. Together, they perform a variety of supervisory and administrative roles to oversee successful program implementation and assessment monitoring districtwide. The Elementary Supervisor serves on the District's Curriculum Development Team (CDT) and facilitates communication between building-level administrators and staff to ensure effective curriculum implementation and alignment across K-5 programs.

The Elementary Supervisor reports to the Curriculum Administrator for Multilingual Learner & World Language Programs, and collaborates with other administrators such as the Chief of Schools, building-level administrators, instructional coaches, and student services departments in an effort to continuously improve programs of study and strengthen services to students and families, with a particular focus on multilingual learners in alignment with District goals.

Duties And Responsibilities
  • Assists in the selection, hiring and orientation of new hires
  • Assists in the evaluation and assessment of the effectiveness of current ML Language academic programs and their impact on student achievement across K-5 schools.
  • Supports and supervises effective coaching and instructional support across all elementary schools.
  • Collaborates with building administrators to assess needs and programming to support multilingual learners.
  • Coordinates with curriculum staff, program support staff, and administrators to provide vertically aligned instruction that meets the goals of the District coherence plan.
  • Coordinates and monitors district intervention and support programs for multilingual learners and ensures consistency in instructional practices and programming at the K-5 level.
  • Supports compliance with state and federal requirements related to multilingual learner programming and language acquisition services.
  • Assists in the observation and evaluation of certified staff members using the District's Teacher Evaluation Plan.
  • Provides input & coordination in the development of differentiated and meaningful professional development for certified teaching and support staff. Directly delivers professional development to building and team staff.
  • Promotes culturally responsive instructional practices and equitable access to rigorous academic opportunities for multilingual learners.
  • Facilitates communication and engagement with families and community stakeholders in support of ML initiatives.
  • Performs such other assignments as directed by the Curriculum Administrator.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Education required. Graduate work in TESOL, bilingual education, curriculum development, instruction, and assessment preferred.
  • Connecticut certification required:
    • 092 Intermediate Administration and Supervision
    • 111 Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), PK12; 902 Bilingual content certification
    • Additional 013 Elementary K-6, 305 Elementary Grades 1-6 or equivalent
  • Two to three years of demonstrated leadership experience, including but not limited to instructional leadership teams, curriculum leadership, coaching, department leadership, or building administration.
  • Demonstrated commitment to multilingual learner achievement, language acquisition, and culturally responsive instructional practices.
  • Experience supporting ML programming, curriculum implementation, and instructional improvement initiatives.
  • Experience conducting walk-throughs, formal and informal observations, and evaluations for certified staff members.
  • Experience in student data analysis and progress monitoring.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and problem solve collaboratively with leaders of academic priorities.
  • Spanish or Portuguese bilingual preferred.
Terms and Conditions
  • Salary range from $147,187, depending upon experience.
  • 206-day work year. Terms and conditions of employment as further described in the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the Danbury School Administrators Association and the Danbury Board of Education, a copy of which can be found on the District website at www.danbury.k12.ct.us under the District/Human Resources tabs.
