Job summary

Edmond Public Schools is seeking a Media Center Assistant at Angie Debo Elementary to support classroom learning. This is a contract position for 175 days, seven hours per day, with salary range $14.79–$16.83 per hour.

You will assist students and staff in the Media Center and help manage resources under the Media Specialist. The role involves ordering supplies, processing IDs and overdue items, supervising volunteers, operating media equipment, and maintaining collections.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business materials.
  • Ability to write reports and communicate with staff and the public.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in ordering supplies and process IDs, passwords, and overdue items to maintain access to library resources.
  • Help teachers, students, and administrators identify materials for assignments.
  • Duplicate media materials and maintain inventory for internal distribution.
  • Assist with book fairs and author visits.
  • Evaluate books and media for retention and repair damaged items.
  • Maintain inventory of books, media, equipment, and related materials.
  • Supervise parent and student volunteers and monitor technology use.
  • Operate media equipment and management systems to provide library services.
  • Participate in workshops and meetings to perform duties.
  • Handle circulation tasks and overdue item lists.
  • Prepare documents and reports on collections and scheduling.
  • Process library items and log into master files for reporting.
  • Assist the media specialist with wireless devices at the site.

Job Goal: To assist teachers and students in the effective use of the Media Center as a learning resource.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. 1. Assists in ordering supplies for the purpose of ensuring availability as needed. Assists in processing student ID's, passwords, notices of missing, damaged, or overdue library books, media and materials for the purpose of providing and/or maintaining access to library resources and securing reimbursement for losses.
  2. 2. Assists teachers, students and administrators for the purpose of identifying resource materials for use in classroom and/or class assignments.
  3. 3. Duplicates and works with media and instructional materials (as allowed by copyright) for the purpose of maintaining an appropriate inventory for internal distribution.
  4. 4. Assist with Book Fairs, Author Visits and other related media events.
  5. 5. Assist in evaluating books, media and/or periodicals for retention withincollection (e.g. repairing damaged books, media, periodicals, etc.) for thepurpose of ensuring the availability of books and library materials under thedirection of the Media Specialist.
  6. 6. Maintains materials inventory and equipment (e.g. library books, library hardware/software, audio books, media equipment, library media computers, library media printers, magazines, newspapers, and related instructional materials, etc.) for the purpose of providing an up-to-date reference and ensuring the availability of materials and equipment when required.
  7. 7. Monitors parent volunteers, student volunteers, student activities and technology use for the purpose of maintaining a safe environment and continuation of learning.
  8. 8. Operates a variety of media equipment and computer management systems (e.g. media computers, printers, CD;s, DVDs, etc.) for the purpose of providing library media services to students and staff.
  9. 9. Participates in workshops, in-service training, meetings, etc. for gathering information required to perform functions.
  10. 10. Performs circulation activities (e.g. item check-in and check-out, lists of overdue items, etc.) for the purpose of controlling the use, location and availability of items in the collection.
  11. 11. Prepares manual and electronic documents and reports (e.g. collection statistics, scheduling reports/requests, work orders, overdue lists, fines, costs, etc.) for the purpose of providingdocumentation and information to others.
  12. 12. Processes library books, periodicals, software and related media materials. (e.g. logging into master files, barcoding, shelving, producing required reports, etc.) for the purpose of providing students and staff with requiredmaterials.
  13. 13. Assists the media specialist in their role as Resource Manager to manage wireless devices at the site.
  14. 14. Other duties as assigned.
Length of Contract

One hundred seventy-five (175) contract days.

Salary commensurate with experience on the negotiated agreement of the SupportEmployees of Edmond (SEE).

Evaluation

Performance of this job will be evaluated by the Principal inaccordance with the provisions of the Board's policies, state law, and the negotiatedagreement with the Support Employees of Edmond (SEE).

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups, staff, parents, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to plan budgets and use the mathematical skills required to do so. Maintain accurate records and support documentation for projects under the supervision of the position.

REASONING SKILLS:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Ability to use computer and computer related programs and other technologies needed to perform essential job functions. Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community. Ability to organize and chair or facilitate committees and meetings. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
