Job description

Job Summary

The Elementary Library Supervisor at Northeast Elementary School is responsible for supporting the daily operations of the school library and promoting a positive, literacy-rich environment for students and staff. This position assists students in developing foundational reading and research skills, maintains organization of library materials and resources, and supports classroom teachers in fostering a love of reading and learning. The Library Supervisor plays an essential role in creating an engaging and accessible library space that supports student achievement and literacy development.

Essential Functions
  • Supervise and assist students in the library during scheduled class visits and open library times.
  • Support students in selecting appropriate reading materials based on interest and reading level.
  • Assist with instruction of basic library and research skills, including book organization and digital literacy.
  • Maintain organization of library collections, including shelving, labeling, and inventory of materials.
  • Check library materials in and out using the school’s circulation system.
  • Assist with the maintenance and updating of library records and databases.
  • Promote reading engagement through library programs, activities, and displays.
  • Collaborate with teachers to support classroom instruction and literacy initiatives.
  • Monitor student behavior in the library to ensure a safe, respectful, and productive learning environment.
  • Assist with the preparation and facilitation of literacy events, book fairs, and reading incentives.
  • Ensure care and proper handling of all library materials and equipment.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting and support for library technology and digital resources.
  • Communicate with staff regarding library needs, scheduling, and student support.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Building Principal.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or higher preferred.
  • Experience working with children in an educational setting preferred.
  • Strong reading, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Basic computer skills, including familiarity with library circulation systems and Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Drive, and Gmail).
  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, and families.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Ability to foster a positive, welcoming, and student-centered environment.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and move throughout the library for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and shelve books and materials up to 25–30 pounds.
  • Ability to supervise students in an active school environment.
  • Ability to operate standard office and library equipment.
