Job summary

Churubusco Elementary School is seeking a Language Facilitator - Deaf/Hard of Hearing (DHH) to support students with access to communication and instruction throughout the school day.

You will work under licensed staff to help students participate in academics and activities, reinforce classroom understanding, and collaborate with teachers and specialists on IEP goals.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required; coursework or degree in education, communication disorders, or related field preferred.
• Experience with Deaf/Hard of Hearing students strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of hearing loss and language development is helpful.

Responsibilities

• Provide communication support based on the student's primary mode of communication.
• Reinforce understanding of classroom instruction with clear directions and cues.
• Promote development of expressive and receptive language in natural settings.
• Support use of assistive technology (FM systems).
• Facilitate communication among student, peers and staff for inclusion.
• Pre-teach or re-teach vocabulary when directed.
• Collect data on communication access and progress as required.
• Collaborate with DHH Teacher, general education teacher, and SLP.
• Maintain confidentiality and follow IEP and district guidelines.

Job Title: Language Facilitator - Deaf/Hard of Hearing (DHH) Churubusco Elementary School - Classified Position

Job Summary:

The Language Facilitator supports students who are deaf or hard of hearing by facilitating access to communication, instruction, and social interactions throughout the school day. Working under the direction of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Teacher and other licensed staff, this role helps ensure the student can fully participate in academic and extracurricular settings.

Responsibilities

• Provide communication support based on the student's primary mode of communication (e.g., spoken language, sign-supported speech, or sign language if qualified)
• Reinforce and facilitate understanding of classroom instruction by:
  • Clarifying directions
  • Rephrasing or repeating information as appropriate
  • Supporting the use of visual aids and cues
• Promote the development of expressive and receptive language skills in natural settings
• Support use of assistive technology (e.g., FM systems)
• Facilitate communication between the student, peers, and staff to support social interaction and inclusion
• Pre-teach or re-teach vocabulary and concepts when directed
• Collect data on communication access and student progress as required
• Collaborate regularly with:
  • Deaf and Hard of Hearing Teacher
  • General education teacher
  • Speech-Language Pathologist
• Maintain confidentiality and follow all IEP and school guidelines

Qualifications

• Safe Hiring Solutions expanded background, including Indiana DCS index.
• High school diploma required; additional coursework or degree in education, special education, communication disorders, or related field preferred
• Experience working with students who are deaf or hard of hearing is strongly preferred
• Knowledge of hearing loss, language development, and communication strategies
• Basic knowledge of sign language preferred
• Ability to work closely with a team and follow specialized plans
• Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills

Working Conditions And Compensation

• School-based setting (classroom, small group, and possibly extracurricular environments)
• Works under the supervision of licensed staff (DHH Teacher, building administrator, Special Education Director)
• May require movement between classrooms and settings throughout the day
• Compensation: $18.00
• 5 hours per day (27.5 hours per week)
• 185 day position
