Job summary

Marion P. Thomas Charter School in Newark seeks an experienced elementary teacher for grades K-6 who will implement the school’s educational philosophy, meet students' needs, and collaborate with staff to enhance the learning environment.

The role includes planning, progress assessments, communication with families, and supervising activities within a 10.5‑month contract with MPTEA, supporting a diverse student body.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
• New Jersey Department of Education Standard Certificate, CE or CEAS in Elementary School Teacher K-6.

Responsibilities

• Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
• Evaluate student progress regularly and prepare progress reports.
• Instructs students in citizenship, basic communications skills, and other general elements of the course of study common to all teachers.
• Provides individual, small, and/or large group instruction to adapt the curriculum to varying needs.
• Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior for an orderly environment.
• Selects and requisitions books, instructional materials, equipment, and aids and maintains inventory records.
• Develops instructional plans and organizes class time for a balanced program.
• Maintains professional competence through in-service education and growth activities.
• Supervises out-of-classroom activities as required.
• Plans and coordinates the work of aides and paraprofessionals.
• Identifies students' needs and cooperates with staff to help solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
• Communicates with parents and student personnel staff on individual progress.
• Develops and sponsors student activities and faculty committees.
• Acts as a resource person across departments to relate subject area to others.
• Maintains open lines of communication with students and parents regarding progress.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Salary range: BA $66,901-$94,701 / MA $68,151-$95,951
• Term of Employment: 10.5 Months
