POSITION TITLE

School Counselor - Grades K-4

REPORTS TO

Elementary (K-4) Principal

Position Objective

The School Counselor works to address all students' academic, career and social/emotional development needs by designing, implementing, evaluating and enhancing a comprehensive school counseling program that promotes and enhances student success and aligns with the mission, vision, and pillars of DaVinci Academy.

Direct Student Services

• Individual student success in the classroom and goal setting
• Provides short-term group and individual counseling to students
• Provides resources for teachers to integrate character education instruction into the classroom.
• Teaches lessons as identified by classroom or school level needs
• Responds to mental health and behavioral crisis

Indirect Student Services

• Data analysis to identify student issues needs and challenges as well as evaluating program effectiveness
• Makes referrals for long-term support
• Collaborates with families/teachers/administrators/community for student success
• Communicate regularly with families via phone, email, and in-person meetings as needed
• Advocates for students at student-focused meetings, including, but not limited to Student Intervention Team, Behavior Team, and Individual Education Program, and 504 Plan meetings
• Participates in Student Success Team, Student Intervention Team, Crisis Team, Mental Health Team, PBIS team, and other teams/committees as needed
• Coordinates school-wide character education initiatives in collaboration with the student success team
• Support community-wide initiatives and events
• Provide professional development for staff on wellness, SEL, and tools for supporting students
• Collaborate with school-based mental health provider through Lee Carlson
• Assist in envisioning the growth and development of the comprehensive school counseling program
• Support student arrivals and dismissals daily
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Master's degree and state licensure required
• Demonstrated experience as a school counselor
• Demonstrated understanding of the ASCA national model
• Effectively communicate with students, staff, administrators, parents and the community
• Demonstrates excellent oral and written communication skills
• Ability to identify, interpret and follow school policies and procedures
• Commitment to equity and demonstrated ability to work with students with diverse backgrounds and needs
• Show initiative and function as a self-starter
• Commitment to professional development in the field of counseling
• Physical demands: able to remain in a stationary position for long periods of time, frequent bending, and ability to lift up to 50#

Position Information

• Salary Range: The 2026-2027 salary range for In-House Substitutes is $42,024 to $79,568.00. Salary offers will consider the candidate's experience, education, skills, and DaVinci Academy's budget. Experienced candidates should expect a salary offer around the midpoint of the salary range.
  • In exceptional cases, salaries exceeding the midpoint may be offered to attract candidates for hard-to-fill positions or those with specialized skills. Such decisions will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
• Duty Days: Modified year round, 188 duty days per year
• Time Off: 3 days of PTO, and 10 days sick time to accrue
