Douglas County School District is seeking a Counselor Intern for Spring Semester 2027 to work within a school counseling program. The role offers exposure to individual planning, classroom guidance, and system support in alignment with the ASCA National Model.

The position targets graduate students in a counseling masters or certificate program, with collaboration among school staff, parents, and the community to promote student success.

• Bachelor’s degree required; master's in counseling preferred.

Job Description

This position is specifically for graduate students, specifically in a Masters program or Certificate program for School Counseling, to work in a school site counseling program with training that will include individual student planning, responsive services, and systems support that aligns with the National Model. The intern will work as a team member with school staff, parents, and the community to create a caring, supportive climate in an atmosphere whereby students can achieve academic success. The intern will gain an understanding of unique and diverse challenges, both personally and developmentally, that impact academic and social emotional achievement of students. The intern will develop and promote good community relations among various community and school clientele. The intern will work with a school(s) that have demonstrated essential understanding of comprehensive counseling programming that is aligned with the ASCA National Model in order to meet university standards.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate age-appropriate counseling practices that meet academic and personal/social needs.
• Deliver counseling services through classroom guidance lessons, small groups and individual counseling.
• Counsel individuals to help them understand and overcome personal, social or behavioral problems affecting their education.
• Customize counseling services to meet individual student and school needs.
• Align the counseling program to school goals (School Improvement Plan).
• Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
• Participate in professional development activities to improve knowledge and skills.
• Maintain community partnerships to support students and their families.
