Job Description

Required Qualifications

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Teach the elementary Digital Literacy and Computer Science (DLCS) special to students in grades 2, 3, 4, and 5, meeting with students once per week to cover the following broad topic areas:
    • Digital Literacy
    • Digital Citizenship
    • Coding
  • Guide and support teachers in integrating technology into classroom-specific activities and learning experiences related to a connected and global society.
  • Provide individual/small group coaching that is intensive, ongoing, focused on the classroom, and occurs during the teacher’s workday, offering a scaffold for ongoing support and growth with opportunities for low-risk practice and feedback.
  • Conduct traditional workshops and PD sessions with faculty, scheduled to coincide with district-determined release days.
  • Research best practices and disseminate information to staff via email, websites, and other forms of electronic communication.
  • Partner with families to support students' academic, social, and behavioral progress and provide assistance as needed with at-home access to technology resources
  • Work closely with the Director of Technology, Learning, and Innovation to make strategic decisions about short and long-term goals for the Technology Department, including:
    • Hardware/software resource acquisition
    • Professional development
    • Evaluation, refinement, and addition of structures and procedures that adapt to new technologies, evolving best practices, regulations, and methods of implementation.
  • Make positive contributions to the larger school community
  • Implement Individual Education Programs and 504 Accommodation Plans and collaborate with special education and support staff members
  • Fulfill professional responsibilities by communicating effectively, using good judgment, meeting deadlines, engaging in professional development, reflecting on performance and making positive changes to improve student learning, being receptive to feedback, and completing assigned duties
  • Assume other responsibilities assigned by the building principal in accordance with collective bargaining provisions

Job Environmen t:

Work takes place in classrooms and other building rooms/areas, including offices, auditorium, gym, lunchroom and hallways, within a school building setting, primarily indoors. Job takes place in a high-performing school district with high expectations.

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires sufficient vision to read printed documents and to view detail on a computer screen for extended periods.
  • Requires frequent standing, walking, sitting, bending, and reaching, as well as carrying and occasionally lifting up to 30 lbs.
  • Ability to speak in an understandable voice with sufficient volume to be heard in normal conversation, on the telephone, and in the classroom.
  • Ability to hear sounds clearly up to twenty feet.
  • Travel among buildings may be required.

This position is placed on Westwood's negotiated teacher salary schedule, ranging from $60,818 (BA, Step 1) to $139,019 (Doctorate, Step 14), based on education and years of experience. See the full salary schedule link for exact placement.
