Job summary

Kansas City Public Schools is seeking an Instructional Support Assistant to work with classroom teachers in planning and carrying out child development activities for elementary students. The role involves coordinating activities to promote social, physical, and intellectual growth, under supervision of a building administrator.

Qualifications include 60 college credits or higher, or state assessments, with preferred experience in elementary settings and collaboration with families.

Qualifications

• Must meet one of the listed qualifications: 60 college credits, Associate's degree or higher, or Missouri ParaPro/Paraprofessional assessments, or completion of Missouri's 20-hour online substitute training.

Responsibilities

• Perform basic duties to assist the teacher such as typing, filing, data entry, inventory, tests, supplies, calls, and materials distribution.
• Assist teachers in team teaching, planning, and daily and emergency routines.
• Monitor and reinforce appropriate student behavior during activities.
• Prepare crafts, art, and sensory materials for children.
• Work with parents and classroom volunteers.
• Accompany teacher on home visits and connect with families as needed.
• Participate in program planning committees and parent involvement activities.
• Attend orientation and in-service training; serve as group leader when needed.
• Plan activities to stimulate language, social, and motor development in children.
• Instruct children in room cleanliness and personal care.
