Qualifications
- Valid Michigan teaching certificate
- Bachelor's degree; Master's degree in Education, Literacy, Curriculum & Instruction, or related field
- Minimum of 3 years of successful classroom teaching experience, preferably in elementary ELA and/or Math
- Experience with MTSS frameworks, data-driven instruction, and literacy/math intervention programs
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to coach and collaborate effectively with adult learners
- Demonstrated ability to facilitate professional learning for teachers, including instructional rounds and learning labs
- Experience with a coaching model that includes modeling, co-teaching, co-planning, observing, and giving feedback
- Proficiency in Google Suite, Microsoft Office, and student data platforms, such as Illuminate
- Ability to use student data (diagnostic and observational) to inform and adjust Tier I instruction and determine supports and interventions for individual students
- Ability to work independently and problem solve in challenging situations
Job Description
The Elementary Instructional Coach serves as a school-embedded resource to support teachers and paraprofessionals in delivering high-quality ELA and Math instruction with fidelity to the MTSS model and research-based best practices. The Coach leads instructional rounds, learning labs, and peer-to-peer coaching to build a culture of continuous professional growth, and provides dedicated coaching support to all teachers in collaboration with the building administrator. This position is focused on continuous improvement, data-informed decision-making, and the personal and professional development of every member of the learning community.
Responsibilities
Instructional Coaching & Professional Learning
- Serves as a school-embedded instructional coach supporting teachers and paraprofessionals in delivering high-quality ELA and Math instruction, aligned with the MTSS model
- Facilitate instructional rounds, learning labs, and peer-to-peer coaching to build a culture of continuous professional growth and reflective practice
- Provides dedicated coaching support to all teachers in collaboration with the building administrators
- Collaborate with teachers in Professional Learning Communities to promote data-informed, research-based instruction in ELA and Math
- Coordinates building-level instructional initiatives and provides ongoing, embedded professional development to staff on instructional best practice
Intervention & MTSS Support
- Uses student data to drive instructional planning, diagnostic assessment, and instructional differentiation
- Participates in MTSS/School Improvement Team, IEP, 504, Child Study processes, and other student assistance teams, as requested
Supports implementation of Individualized Reading Plans per the Read by Grade 3 Law
Family & Community Engagement
- Partners with families through communication, collaboration, and training to support student learning
