Qualifications

• Associate’s degree or 60 college credits or demonstrated knowledge with ParaPro score.
• A minimum of one year experience as an instructional assistant preferred.
• Experience working with children with disabilities preferred.
• Excellent communication, organizational, time management and public relations skills.
• Ability to perform basic math and strong business English, grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
• Good skills in operating personal computers and related software.
• Able to adapt to changing priorities and work independently or with minimal supervision.
• Knowledge of child growth, development and paraprofessional instructional procedures.
• Patience and ability to work with children with disabilities, young adults and faculty.
• Must follow written and oral instructions and perform all tasks.
• Ability to assist in behavioral intervention programs and maintain confidential student records.
• Must lift up to 50 lbs.
• Complete online autism training within 60 days of start date.

Responsibilities

• Assists the teacher or supervisor with instructional activities in a special education setting or one-to-one.
• Reinforces material through repetition and reinforcement.
• Assist with self-care areas to build independence.
• Prepare and maintain files and reports.
• Support teacher with assigned duties and specialized tasks.
• Provide individual and group instruction and supervise students in/out of class.
• Reinforce appropriate student behavior consistently.
• Encourage care of facilities and participate in curriculum development.
• Assist with toileting and mobility as needed.
• Escort and supervise students as required.
