Job summary

Wicomico County Public Schools in Salisbury, Maryland is hiring an Instructional Assistant for elementary schools. The position supports teachers, works with students in small groups, and assists with daily activities and transportation-related tasks.

Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, 48 college credits or ParaPro, or a Bachelor’s degree. Hours are 10 months, 35 hours/week (1274 annual hours) with non-exempt status.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
• 48 college credits or qualifying scores on the ParaPro Assessment.
• Bachelor’s degree or higher.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with teachers, students, parents, and associates.

Responsibilities

• Assist teacher or other professionals to achieve instructional objectives.
• Work with students in small groups on a specific concept/skill according to the students’ skill level.
• Assist with large group activities, field trips, and other special programs/activities for students.
• Work with individuals or small groups to reinforce material introduced by teacher.
• Provide programmed practice activities and repetitions as developed by teacher or therapist.
• Escort students to special classes and therapy.
• Guide independent study and other work assigned by teacher.
• Assist students with mobility needs, assist with loading and unloading buses.
• Report student problems to teacher and assist with student problems.
• Assist with breakfast, lunch, snack, cleanup, lavatory, clothing, personal hygiene, and wash-up routines.
• Other duties as assigned at the discretion of the building principal.
