Job summary

Wicomico County Public Schools in Salisbury, Maryland, seeks a Special Education Instructional Assistant for middle and high schools to support teachers and students with diverse needs. The role is full-time with benefits and requires assisting with instructional objectives and classroom activities.

The successful candidate will have a high school diploma or GED, excellent communication and organizational skills, and the ability to work with students in groups and individually.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Assist teacher or professionals to achieve instructional objectives.

• Assist with large group activities, field trips, and special programs.
• Reinforce material introduced by the teacher for individuals or small groups.
• Provide programmed practice activities and accompany therapy as needed.
• Escort students to classes and therapy sessions.
• Support independent study and other work assigned by teachers.
• Assist with mobility needs and loading/unloading buses.
• Report student problems to teachers and assist with solutions.
• Assist with meals, hygiene, and classroom routines.
• Other duties as assigned by the principal.

Salary(Non negotiable)
Commensurate with education, highly qualified status (as determined by Human Resources), and verified full time experience. Includes employee benefits package.

Paygrade 5 $21,339 - $28,945 High school diploma or equivalent (GED).

Paygrade 6 $22,422- $30,397 48 college credits or qualifying scores on the ParaproAssessment

Paygrade 7 $23,531- $31,901 Bachelor’s degree or higher

Hours: 10 months, 35 hours per week, 182 days (1274 annual hours)
Contract Unit: This position is part of the non-supervisory support services bargaining unit.
FLSA: Non-exempt

Minimum Qualfications: High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with teachers, students, parents, and associates.
Ability to use classroom and instructional equipment.
Ability to operate audiovisual equipment, standard office machines, and word/data processing programs.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, using the English language when deemed necessary.
Excellent organizational and self-starter skills.

Responsibilities: Assist teacher or other professionals to achieve instructional objectives.
Work with students in small groups on a specific concept/skill according to the students’ skill level.
Assist with large group activities, field trips, and other special programs/activities for students.
Work with individuals or small groups to reinforce material introduced by teacher.
Provide programmed practice activities and repetitions as developed by teacher or therapist.
Escort students to special classes and therapy.
Guide independent study and other work assigned by teacher.
Assist students with mobility needs, assist with loading and unloading buses.
Report student problems to teacher and assist with student problems.
Assist with breakfast, lunch, snack, cleanup, lavatory, clothing, personal hygiene, and wash-up routines.
Other duties as assigned at the discretion of the building principal.
