Job summary

ReNEW Schools is seeking an Elementary Instructional Assistant at Shakamak Elementary School to support teachers in delivering engaging instruction and assisting students with academic, behavioral, social, and developmental needs.

The role requires collaboration with teachers and staff to maintain a safe, positive learning environment and to implement specific student plans. This on-site, hourly position emphasizes reliability, adaptability, and a student-centered approach.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must meet applicable state and federal requirements for instructional assistants.
  • Experience working with elementary-aged children is preferred.
  • Ability to follow instructional plans and directions while exercising sound judgment.
  • Strong communication, organization, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
  • Patience, dependability, flexibility, and a genuine commitment to helping students succeed.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and establish appropriate professional boundaries.
  • Ability to pass all required background checks and complete required employment documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Provide instructional support to individual students and small groups under the direction of a licensed teacher.
  • Reinforce classroom instruction and help students practice previously introduced skills.
  • Assist students with classroom assignments, learning activities, organization, and transitions.
  • Support the implementation of student learning plans, accommodations, behavior plans, and other assigned interventions.
  • Help maintain a safe, structured, welcoming, and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Supervise students in classrooms and during lunch, recess, arrival, dismissal, transitions, and other school activities as assigned.
  • Prepare instructional materials, organize classroom resources, and assist with routine clerical tasks.
  • Observe student progress and communicate relevant information to the supervising teacher.
  • Support positive student behavior by consistently following classroom and district expectations.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of student, family, and employee information.
  • Collaborate professionally with teachers, administrators, instructional assistants, families, and other school personnel.
  • Participate in required meetings, training, and professional development.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervising teacher or administrator.

Position Overview

MSD of Shakamak is seeking a dependable, caring, and student-centered individual to serve as an Elementary Instructional Assistant. This position supports teachers in providing a safe, positive, and engaging learning environment while assisting students with their academic, behavioral, social, and developmental needs.

Physical Requirements

The employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation. Duties may include standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, moving throughout the school, assisting with classroom activities, and lifting or moving instructional materials.
