Job summary

Leander Independent School District seeks an Elementary Teacher to meet the educational, affective and personal needs of identified gifted students and guide their development into mature, responsible young people.

Responsibilities include identifying students for gifted programs, planning instruction, maintaining records, providing training to teachers and parents, supervising staff and volunteers, and ensuring a safe, orderly classroom while communicating with families.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from accredited university.
• Valid Texas teaching certificate with endorsements or required training for subject and level assigned.
• 30 Hrs GT-Trained/Certificate/Endorsement/Masters in Gifted Education.
• Student teaching, internship, fieldwork, observation and placements required for certification.

Responsibilities

• Assesses students for identification into gifted program following testing procedures.
• Provides training for teachers, parents and administrators on gifted education.
• Meets and instructs assigned classes in designated locations and times.
• Plans a program of study meeting individual needs, interests and abilities.
• Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for students.
• Prepares for classes and shows written evidence of preparation upon request.
• Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
• Guides learning toward curriculum goals and communicates objectives to students.
• Employs a variety of instructional techniques and media.
• Maintains records as required by law and policy.
• Assists administration in implementing policies and rules governing student life.
• Attends staff meetings and serves on committees.
• Helps students analyze and improve study methods.
• Conducts ongoing assessments of student achievement.
