Job summary

Pleasant Valley Elementary School in Gresham, Oregon seeks a Special Educational Assistant & Program Assistant for 1.5 hours per day (11:00–12:30pm). The role supports certificated teachers with instructional programs for students with disabilities and diverse needs.

The position requires paraprofessional duties, IEP familiarity, and the ability to work one-on-one or in small groups. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, and more. Start date is November 2, 2026, or when filled.

Qualifications

• Experience preferred: prior job related experience working with students of special needs.
• Skills, knowledge and/or abilities: General skills in all Educational Assistant positions in English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation.
• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
• Knowledge of basic child care techniques; learn basic first aid and safety requirements.
• Special education knowledge: provisions of PL 94-142 or ability to rapidly acquire knowledge.
• Ability to work in a team setting and establish effective working relationships.

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning and implementing learning experiences for students.
• Confer with teachers to provide feedback on student performance.
• Interpret IEPs and related instructional plans.
• Instruct students in small group and one-on-one settings.
• Revise lesson plans or teaching strategies to meet IEP goals.
• Conduct student testing and record scores; inform teacher of issues.
• Promote safety and help students develop self-confidence.
• Implement behavior management programs and train students accordingly.
• Communicate with teachers and parents as needed.
