Job summary

Corvallis School District seeks a licensed school counselor to provide guidance, prevention and counseling services for students. The role includes collaboration with parents, staff and community services, and requires TSPC certification with a counselor endorsement.

The position is 1.0 FTE, temporary, with 191 work days and a salary range of $56,258 to $105,238 plus benefits. Retirement contributions and district supports are described in the posting.

Qualifications

• Valid Oregon teacher or personnel service license with counselor endorsement and appropriate grade level authorization.
• Understanding of human growth and development patterns, learning theory and brain research.
• Familiarity with guidance, counseling and behavior management strategies reflecting current research.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to listen with empathy and understanding to others who have concerns to express.
• Knowledge of state and federal education laws and of student and staff rights.
• Professionalism and effective human relations.
• Ability to manage and supervise students and their work.
• Facilitate meetings and collaboration with staff and community.
• Travel among district facilities as needed; driving may be required.
• Standard First Aid certification or ability to obtain within two months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Meet standards of ethical performance as outlined by Oregon rules.
• Create and model a respectful learning environment.
• Develop and conduct classroom guidance activities addressing safety, emotional awareness and social skills.
• Assist staff with implementing guidance activities.
• Monitor students and ensure appropriate referrals and plans.
• Participate in development of individual student plans (IEP, 504).
• Work as part of the school team to implement RTI.
• Collaborate with staff to meet diverse needs.
• Consult with teachers, students and parents to solve problems impacting progress.
• Assist transitions between school levels.
• Maintain open communication with students and parents.
