PAYROLL GRADE: 14 FLSA STATUS: EXEMPT

The teacher in this position teaches math, science, and social studies to 4th and 5th grades with a 5th grade homeroom.

Basic Job Description: Teach pupils at the elementary level basic academic, social, and other formative skills in keeping with the school’s Catholic character and Gospel values.

Responsibilities include:

  • Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among students.
  • Observe and evaluate students' performance, behavior, social development, and physical health.
  • Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities.
  • Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' needs.
  • Plan and conduct instructional activities, demonstrations, and work time.
  • Instruct students individually and in groups using various methods.
  • Set and communicate clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects.
  • Assign and grade classwork and homework.
  • Read books to classes or small groups.
  • Prepare, administer, and grade tests and assignments.
  • Meet with parents, guardians, and staff to discuss student progress and behavioral or academic issues.
  • Maintain accurate student records.
  • Prepare students for later grades and encourage exploration and perseverance.
  • Guide and counsel students with academic or adjustment problems.
  • Implement remedial programs for students needing extra help.
  • Follow curriculum guidelines and prepare course objectives and outlines.
  • Provide materials for exploration and imaginative play.
  • Enforce policies and rules governing students.
  • Collaborate with staff on lesson planning and program development.
  • Use technology and audiovisual aids to enhance presentations.
  • Show evidence of lesson preparation upon request.
  • Participate in meetings, committees, and professional development.
  • Organize activities like field trips, guest visits, and projects.
  • Display student work and organize classroom materials.
  • Supervise and evaluate teacher assistants and volunteers.
  • Assist with extracurricular activities and sacramental preparations.

Abilities needed: Oral and written communication, problem sensitivity, reasoning, creativity, visual acuity, attention, flexibility, and adaptability.

Working conditions: Ability to sit, stand, lift up to 25 pounds, and perform technological tasks in a typical school environment. Reasonable accommodations available.

Minimum qualifications: Bachelor’s degree (preferably in education), valid teaching certification (or willingness to obtain), and at least 2 years of teaching experience preferred. Must meet PA clearance requirements and respect Catholic values if teaching religion.
