Job summary

Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools is seeking an Elementary Teacher Assistant to support the classroom teacher in a well-organized environment at Northside Elementary School. The role focuses on relieving the lead teacher of non-teaching tasks to allow prep, individualization, and evaluation.

The position requires assisting in instruction, behavior management, and communication with families, within a 10-month schedule and nonexempt pay status. Reports to the principal and designee as applicable.

Qualifications

• Must meet one of: 48 semester hours of education earned/passed, or 7 credits in at least two core subjects and passing Proficiency Certificate for Teacher Assistants assessment tests.
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Associate's Degree preferred; previous experience with children preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist classroom teacher with individual, small group, or whole class activities.
• Reinforce learning and develop strategies to support diverse learners.
• Supervise students during meals, transitions, and field trips; support health procedures as needed.
