The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma and strong interpersonal skills. Positions are available at Central Manor, Eshleman, Martic, and Pequea Elementary Schools, with a commitment of up to 25 hours per week.

Job description

Penn Manor School District – Elementary Building Aides

Posting: 6/2/26 - 6/16/26

Location: Central Manor, Eshleman, Martic, & Pequea Elementaries (1 position each)

Status: 180 Days per school year

Reports To: Principal/Classroom Teacher

Schedule: Between 2 - 5 hours per day not to exceed 25hrs/ week. Hours between 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Summary

Assist in all areas of the building to enforce school policy and provide academic support to teachers and building administration, as well as ensuring a safe and orderly setting for the students. Maintain strict confidentiality with respect to information concerning students, personnel and other administrative matters affecting the district.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Assist with supervising students before the school day begins and/or at dismissal to ensure transportation at the end of the day.
  2. Assist with school-wide testing for grades K-6.
  3. Provide assistance to areas within the school building including but not limited to the office, hallways, and restrooms.
  4. Assist in the classroom or in small groups at the direction of the teacher or administrator.
  5. Assist students in emergency situations - fire drills, evacuation drills, etc. ensuring a safe and orderly exiting of the building.
  6. Provide presence and coverage in the cafeteria by assisting and monitoring students during lunch/breakfast periods; assist with cleaning the eating areas, such as wiping down tables, at the end of lunch/breakfast periods.
  7. Assist with serving lunches, as needed.
  8. Assist students with meals and replenish condiments as needed.
  9. Monitor work assigned to students who have lost privileges.
  10. Provide supervision when students are outside at recess and inside during indoor recess by organizing activities and providing assistance when playing games; maintaining discipline and monitor student behavior.
  11. Monitor the playground facilities for sanitary and safety conditions.
  12. Monitor and encourage students to maintain expected standards of behavior, playing safely and using playground equipment appropriately.
  13. Maintain compliance with, and enforce, established discipline policies and procedures.
  14. Report students who are performing illegal acts, refusing to comply with policies and procedures, causing physical danger to others or themselves, or are being defiant.
  15. Assist in implementing special accommodations for students with special needs.
  16. Attend and participate in all required meetings and training.
  17. Work with individual students or groups of students to reinforce learning of materials or skills initially introduced by the teacher.
  18. Provide clerical and other support services as directed by the classroom teacher.
  19. Complete filing and maintenance of records related to classroom activities and management interventions.
  20. Provide supervision of students in small groups, in the hallway, and assist in classrooms as required and directed by the teacher.
  21. Administer, score and record achievement and diagnostic tests under the supervision of the teacher.
  22. Maintain confidentiality concerning specified programs, interventions, diagnoses and classroom accommodations prescribed for individual students.
  23. Operate and care for equipment utilized in the classroom.
  24. Assist with maintaining an orderly and clean learning environment.
  25. Provide assistance to students for achieving success related to overcoming physical handicaps.
  26. Distribute, collect and maintain records related to the use of school and classroom materials and textbooks.
  27. Provide coverage as needed.
  28. Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal, Assistant Principal, and/or classroom teacher.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required
  • Paraprofessional training (preferred)
  • Previous experience with students
  • Valid PA Driver’s license and /or access to independent transportation
  • Pre-employment requirements as designated by the PA School Code
Physical Requirements and Sensory Abilities
  • Ability to reach above and below the waist
  • Ability to use fingers to pick, feel and grasp objects
  • Ability to use both hands for repetitive motion
  • Considerable bending and twisting of the body required
  • Some stooping and squatting required
  • Ability to lift and/or carry supplies up to 25 pounds, stand, walk, or move throughout the building for extended periods.
