Job summary

Childhelp is seeking a dedicated Teacher for the Alice C. Tyler Village in Lignum, VA. You will plan and deliver instructional programs for students with emotional and behavioral needs, coordinating with case management and therapy teams to support IEP/ETP goals.

Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree and a VA teaching credential or be willing to pursue credentialing with our support. Schedule is Mon–Fri, 7:30 am–3:30 pm, with comprehensive benefits and opportunities for growth.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • VA Teaching Credential in Special Education or General Education; credentialing assistance available.
  • Knowledge of instructional strategies and how to deliver curriculum.
  • Ability to establish teaching rapport, diagnose progress, and collaborate with staff.
  • Pass a criminal background check, drug screen, physical, and TB test.

Responsibilities

Childhelp is a psychiatric residential treatment facility that specializes in the treatment of children aged 5-14 with mild to severe trauma or neglect, psychiatric disorders, and neurodevelopmental disorders. Pay: Starting salary at $58,746, Depending on Education and Experience

What you will do: As a Teacher you would be responsible for planning and effectively implementing instructional programs to students requiring services outside of the public school environment. You will provide related academic instruction and educational services to students with emotional and behavioral disabilities; manage student behavior, assesses and evaluates student achievement, and modifies instructional activities, as required for either single or multi-grade level, subject, skill, or specialty oriented. You will be responsible for a case load of students requiring special education services. Participate in meetings as requested, including IEP, ITP, ETP development and team planning meetings, staffing, and Teacher’s meetings, sharing information and opinions. Participates in the writing of either an Education Treatment Plan (ETP) or Individual Education Plan (IEP) and facilitates the development and implementation of therapeutic teaching strategies that correspond with the Plan.

To be considered you should:

  • Have a Bachelors Degree
  • A VA Teaching Credential in Special Education or General Education. We will help with Credentialing if you are not currently certified.
  • Possess a knowledge of:
    • Instructional strategies and how they can be employed to deliver curriculum and assess student learning
    • Various methodologies and research related to learning and working with at-risk, high school aged youth.
    • Effective classroom management techniques and behavioral management styles that result in understanding of how to manage and teach to various learning styles
  • Have the ability to:
    • Establish a teaching rapport with students, which results in student achievement in all program areas
    • Diagnose, prescribe and evaluate student progress on an ongoing basis
    • Collaborate with staff to deliver consistent curriculum and implement a team approach to working with students
    • Confront inappropriate behavior appropriately and take the necessary action as outlined in the program procedures
  • Be able to pass a criminal background check, drug screen, physical, and TB test.

Schedule: Monday through Friday 7:30 am to 3:30 pm
