Job Description

POSITION:Academic Support

QUALIFICATIONS:Teaching Certification -Elementary

REPORTS TO:Principal

JOB GOAL:

The Academic Support position (K–5) provides targeted instructional support to elementary schools in the areas of English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, and Science, with a specific focus on strengthening instruction in state-tested standards. This role is responsible for supporting teachers and teacher teams in improving instructional practices, raising student achievement, and ensuring alignment with district expectations. The position is solely to support core academic achievement.

  • Provide targeted instructional support to K–5 teachers in ELA and Math to strengthen classroom practice and accelerate student growth. This includes modeling lessons, co‑teaching, and demonstrating effective, standards‑aligned instructional strategies.
  • Support teachers in implementing district‑adopted curricula (e.g., Benchmark Advance and 95 Percent Group resources) with fidelity so students receive high‑quality, consistent instruction across classrooms.
  • Collaborate with teachers to plan effective small‑group lessons, offering strategies that strengthen Tier I core instruction and Tier II intervention to improve outcomes for all learners.
  • Assist teachers in planning rigorous, grade‑level lessons by aligning content to the NC Standard Course of Study, anticipating student misunderstandings, and incorporating high‑leverage practices that directly support student achievemen

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide academic intervention and enrichment for Math and ELA
  • Provide social emotional learning lessons
  • Conduct academic advising sessions weekly
  • Monitor student grades, attendance, and assessment performance
  • Monitor student use of I‑Ready learning platform in Math & Reading
  • Collaborate with grade level colleagues to provide support for Math and ELA
  • Maintain contact with parents to create a partnership between home and school.
  • Maintain a safe and orderly learning environment that is conducive to student learning and overall development
  • Treat all students in a fair and equitable manner; interacts effectively with students, co‑workers, parents, and community
  • Carry out non‑instructional duties as assigned and/or as need is perceived; adheres to established laws, policies, rules, and regulations; follows a plan for professional development and demonstrates evidence of growth.

ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Degree in education or in a related area that will qualify for licensure as a teacher by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Ability to constantly monitor the safety and well‑being of students, particularly when student is participating in an inclusive activity.

Ability to motivate students.

Ability to maintain a clean and orderly environment. Ability to perform general clerical duties.

Ability to maintain order and discipline in a classroom. Ability to operate common office machines.

Ability to maintain basic files and records.

Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments.
