LEAP Academy University Charter School is seeking a highly qualified, passionate, and dedicated 5th Grade Teacher to provide high-quality instruction in a rigorous, engaging, and supportive classroom environment.
The 5th Grade Teacher will plan and deliver standards-aligned instruction that supports students' academic, social-emotional, and developmental growth. The teacher will establish a positive classroom culture, differentiate instruction to meet individual student needs, monitor student progress through ongoing assessment, and use data to inform instruction.
The ideal candidate will prepare students for success in middle school and beyond by developing strong skills in literacy, mathematics, science, social studies, and STEM/STEAM. The teacher will encourage critical thinking, collaboration, creativity, independence, and a love of learning while working closely with colleagues, families, specialists, and school leadership to support student achievement.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field.
- Valid New Jersey Department of Education teaching certification with the appropriate elementary endorsement.
- Experience teaching upper elementary students preferred.
- Strong knowledge of elementary curriculum, instructional practices, and student development.
- Knowledge of New Jersey Student Learning Standards.
- Strong classroom management and organizational skills.
- Ability to differentiate instruction for diverse learners.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, colleagues, and school leadership.
- Commitment to creating an inclusive, supportive, and student-centered classroom.
- Ability to use assessment data to monitor student progress and inform instruction.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging, standards-aligned instruction appropriate for 5th grade students.
- Create a safe, positive, inclusive, and academically challenging classroom environment.
- Establish clear classroom expectations, routines, and procedures.
- Teach core academic subjects, including literacy, mathematics, science, and social studies.
- Integrate STEM/STEAM, technology, projects, and hands‑on learning experiences into instruction.
- Develop students' critical thinking, problem‑solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Differentiate instruction to meet individual academic and learning needs.
- Monitor and assess student learning through formal and informal assessments.
- Use student data to inform instruction, identify areas of need, and monitor academic growth.
- Provide timely and meaningful feedback to students.
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance, academic progress, assessments, and required documentation.
- Identify students who need additional academic, behavioral, or developmental support and collaborate with appropriate staff.
- Collaborate with special education teachers, interventionists, specialists, and other school personnel.
- Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress, needs, and achievements.
- Support students' social-emotional development and promote positive behavior.
- Prepare students for a successful transition to middle school by promoting independence, responsibility, and strong study habits.
- Participate in parent conferences, staff meetings, professional development, and school-wide initiatives.
- Uphold school rules, administrative regulations, and Board policies.
- Participate in school activities, events, committees, and family engagement opportunities.
- Maintain professional and positive relationships with students, families, colleagues, and school leadership.
- Stay current with educational research, instructional strategies, and best practices in elementary education.
- Perform other duties as assigned by school administration.
Terms of Employment
2026/2027 10-month contracted position
Salary Range: Starting at $60,000
