Job summary

Athletics position at the Texas School for the Deaf in Austin, TX. The Elem/MS Swimming Assistant Coach participates in practice sessions, assists with game administration, and supports health, safety, and positive sportsmanship across the school’s athletic program.

The role requires knowledge of swimming, strong communication with students, and the ability to recruit athletes for the sport while maintaining a good rapport with the student body.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalency.
• Must have or able to obtain First Aid and CPR certification within one month of employment.
• Sign Language: at hire, SLPI level of INTERMEDIATE or equivalent documented proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Attend practice sessions, meetings, and other assignments as directed by head coach/athletic director.
• Monitor health and safety of participants and promote harmony and cooperation in the school.
• Assist in game administration and follow head coach philosophies.
• Supervise student athletes at events on campus, in vehicles, locker rooms, gyms, and dorms.
• Supervise and instruct athletes and managers in equipment care, storage, and locker/shower areas.
• Control keys and building security as assigned, secure doors, and turn off lights after practices/events.
• Promote sportsmanship, safety, and positive community relations for the school.
• Assist with caring for injured students and accompany them to Health Center when requested.
• Report hazardous situations promptly to head coach or Athletic Director.
