Job summary

MedStar Washington Hospital Center is seeking an Electrophysiology Support Technician to assist physicians with invasive EP procedures, including EP studies, permanent pacemakers, lead extractions, and ablations, plus related ancillary duties in a fast‑paced cath lab.

The candidate will operate specialized equipment, maintain sterile techniques and patient safety, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED with completion of a Cardiovascular Technologist training program and/or related college level education in basic sciences.
• Experience in cardiovascular or electrophysiology laboratory procedures preferred.
• RCIS, RCES, RT(CI) certifications within 1 year; CPR/ACLS within 90 days; Health Services/ACLS required.

Responsibilities

• Assist physicians with invasive electrophysiology procedures (e.g., EP studies, pacemakers, ablations).
• Provide ancillary support and other duties as assigned in the EP lab.
• Operate specialized medical equipment and maintain patient safety protocols.

General Summary of Position

Assists physician with routine to complex invasive diagnostic and therapeutic electrophysiology procedures such as Electrophysiology Studies, Permanent Pacemakers, Bi Ventricular Implantable Cardioverters, Cardiac Ablations Laser Lead Extractions, and other interventional procedures. Performs a variety of related ancillary support activities, and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

• High School Diploma or GED including completion of a Cardiovascular Technologist training program and/or related college level education in basic sciences. required

Experience

• Experience in cardiovascular or electrophysiology laboratory procedures, particularly as it relates to cardiac and electrophysiology invasive and non-invasive procedures preferred

Licenses and Certifications

• RCIS - Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist within 1 Year required or
• RCES - Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist with Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) within 1 Year required or
• R.T.(R)(CI) - Registered Technologist in Cardiac-Interventional Radiography within 1 Year required
• CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within 90 Days required
• Additional unit/specialty certifications may vary by department or business unit.
• Health Services\ACLS required

• May require the use of specialized medical equipment (i.e., EEG, EKG, blood analyzer), or data processing equipment (i.e., tape drives, consoles).
