Job summary

Inova Health seeks an Advanced Practice Provider (NP/PA) to join the Electrophysiology Syncope and Autonomic Disorders team at Inova Fairfax Hospital. This is a full-time outpatient role with no nights or on-call requirements, working within a multidisciplinary team in Virginia.

You will perform initial evaluations, develop differential diagnoses, educate patients on management, and participate in quality initiatives while maintaining thorough documentation and collaborating with supervising

Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive new patient evaluations for syncope and related conditions.
  • Obtain detailed histories focusing on events, triggers, medications and etiologies.
  • Develop differential diagnoses and care plans in collaboration with supervising physicians.
  • Perform focused cardiovascular and neurologic examinations; interpret records and tests.
  • Provide education regarding syncope management and recurrence risk.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Inova Fairfax Hospital | Inova Fairfax Hospital is looking for a dedicated Advanced Practice Provider (NP/PA) for an Electrophysiologist Syncope and Autonomic Disorders to join the team. This role will be a full-time role.

The Specialty Advanced Practice Provider exercises independent judgment in the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients with syncope in accordance with the licensure regulations of the Commonwealth of Virginia and as delineated in the written Scope of Practice and Protocol. Demonstrates respect for and an understanding of other clinical disciplines while using an integrated team‑based approach to achieve desired patient outcomes. Utilizes evidence-based standards, guidelines, and protocols for care delivery. Participates in quality and best practice initiatives to continuously improve patient care and enhance outcomes. Performs high-quality clinical practice and effective patient management under physician supervision in outpatient cardiology and electrophysiology settings.

Job Responsibilities
  • Perform comprehensive new patient evaluations for syncope, presyncope, unexplained falls, and transient loss of consciousness.
  • Obtain detailed histories focused on the circumstances surrounding events, prodromal symptoms, triggers, medications, comorbidities, family history, and potential cardiac or neurologic etiologies.
  • Develops differential diagnoses and evidence-based plans of care for patients with syncope and dysautonomia.
  • Perform focused cardiovascular and neurologic examinations.
  • Interprets prior medical records, ECGs, ambulatory monitors, cardiac imaging, laboratory studies, and other relevant diagnostic studies.
  • Develop individualized diagnostic and treatment plans in collaboration with the supervising/collaborating physician and multidisciplinary team.
  • Communicates with patients through the online portal
  • Provide education regarding syncope, recurrence risk, medication management, hydration, lifestyle modifications, activity restrictions, and safety precautions.
  • Manage patients longitudinally following diagnostic evaluation and treatment.
  • Maintains complete and accurate documentation including histories, progress notes, consultations, procedure follow-up, and discharge summaries.
  • Practices in accordance with safe and effective standards of care and ensures compliance with professional and ethical standards of practice.
  • Communicates appropriately with physicians, peers, nursing staff, device clinic personnel, and other healthcare providers.
  • Serves as a role model and preceptor for Advanced Practice Providers, nurses, and students.
  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives and program metrics related to syncope evaluation and outcomes
  • Supports departmental efficiency, patient access, and cost-conscious care delivery.
  • Assists in development of clinical pathways and standards of care.
  • May perform additional duties as assigned.
Schedule
  • 1.0 FTE, 40 hours/week. Outpatient clinic
  • No nights, weekends, or holidays are required. No call required.
Location
  • ICPH, Inova Fairfax Hospital, and possibility of rotating to other Inova sites

The Acute Care Advanced Practice Provider exercises independent judgement in the assessment, diagnosis and initiation of medical processes and procedures, in accordance with the licensure regulations of the Commonwealth of Virginia, and as delineated in the written Scope of Practice and Protocol. Demonstrates respect for and an understanding of other clinical disciplines while using an integrated team-based approach to achieve desired patient outcomes. Utilizes evidenced based standards, guidelines and protocols for care delivery. Participates in quality and best practice initiatives by utilizing standards and guidelines for cost effective care delivery to continuously improve patient care and enhance outcomes. Performs high-quality clinical practices and effective patient management under physician supervision by following state regulations, including primary and secondary specialty care in clinical and surgical practice settings.

Job Responsibilities

  • Communicates appropriately with physicians, peers, nursing staff and other healthcare providers
  • Develops differential diagnosis and plans of care based on data collection and revises based on physiologic and psychosocial findings. Interprets and synthesizes laboratory, imaging and other pertinent data. Reviews patient plan of care with interdisciplinary team and with the patient and family
  • Evaluates and documents patients' response to care, and evaluates impact of illness on patients' health status, functional status, nutritional status, sleep and rest patterns, family and social relationships, and establishes a health promotion strategy
  • Assumes clinical management for the acute care patient population in collaboration with physicians in practice
  • Provides accurate record keeping as evidenced by complete and pertinent history and physicals, pre-operative progress notes, discharge summaries and data information sheets
  • Serves as a role model and preceptor for new Advanced Practice Providers and students
  • Assists physicians in the care management of patients during emergencies
  • Participates in and supports the departmental, hospital and system-wide quality performance improvement initiatives
  • Supports departmental cost savings strategies and provides care in an efficient and cost conscious manner
  • Assists in the development and revision of standards for patient populations and integrates evidence-based research findings into clinical practice
  • Participates in clinical research/data collection and assists in projects and planning for continual development of respective specialty
  • Provides clinical and professional educational programs to improve staff knowledge
  • Proactively assists peers with work tasks
  • May perform additional duties as assigned
Additional Requirements
  • Certification - Basic Life Support upon start; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (for Critical Care) upon start; Pediatric Advanced Life Support (for Pediatrics) upon start
  • Licensure - Licensed Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner; If Nurse Practitioner: RN Compact License(depending on State of primary residence) AND a license (or eligibility for) as a nurse practitioner or physician assistant in the Commonwealth of Virginia AND a "Practice Agreement" signed by sponsoring/ supervising physician(s), AND a written "Scope of Practice/Protocol" signed by the supervising physician, AND "Drug Enforcement Administration License" (if prescribing controlled substances)
  • Experience - No prior experience required; New graduate considered
  • Education - For Nurse Practitioners: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing and Master's Degree in Advanced Clinical Practice or graduate of a post-masters certificate program for nurse practitioners, OR certificate from an education program that is accredited by the Council of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs/Schools, American College of Nurse Midwives, American Association of Colleges of Nursing of the National League for Nursing; For Physician Assistants: Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program
