Job summary

Job description

Akima Systems Engineering (ASE) is looking to hire several Electronics Technicians with Security System experience. Candidates can be based out of Denver, CO; Phoenix, AZ; Las Vegas, NV.

The teams will support the Western Area Power Administration (WAPA) by traveling to various locations to provide support to the Physical Access Control System (PACS) at electrical substations, switchyards, and facilities throughout Arizona, California, Nevada, Colorado, Nebraska, and Wyoming.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as an Electronics Technician on assigned projects and work independently or with a small team.
  • Work with federal agencies on the migration, upgrades, and installation of physical security infrastructure at various electrical substation facilities.
  • Install Electronic and Technical Security Systems to DoD and DoS specific guidelines and requirements.
  • Read, interpret, and draw electrical, electronic, and electro‑mechanical schematics.
  • Familiar with and use test equipment such as multimeters and cable testers (e.g., Fluke, Klein, Ideal).
  • Follow strict installation wiring guidelines and read/interpret building construction plans (blueprints).
  • Be knowledgeable with National Electric Code (NEC) requirements and practices such as grounding and electrical safety.
  • Perform maintenance, installation, troubleshooting, and testing of security wiring & power circuits.
Qualifications
  • Must be a US Citizen able to obtain and maintain a customer clearance (includes local and national background checks).
  • Current and valid Driver’s License (may require driving company vehicles).
  • At least 2 years of hands‑on experience installing, configuring, troubleshooting, and servicing Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) and Physical Access Control (PACS), Internet Protocol (IP) video surveillance systems, and other security systems.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent; OR graduate of military basic and advanced electronic or communication technician courses (alternatively, at least 5 years of technical experience with installation of electronics/electrical systems).
  • Experience as a technician installing electronics/electrical systems including, but not limited to:
    • Intrusion Detection Systems
    • Access Control Systems
    • Closed Circuit Television
    • Security Cameras
    • Intercom Systems
    • Mass Notification Systems
    • Conduit Installation
    • Low Voltage Electrical Systems
  • Technical Demands:
    • Use basic test equipment and prepare site test data and documentation.
    • Work in a demanding, deadline‑driven environment, be detail oriented, and self‑motivated.
    • Have strong verbal communication skills to update clients, team members, and leads on status.
    • Work independently or under limited supervision.
    • Install, test, and troubleshoot Electronic and Technical Security System equipment; read schematics and maintenance manuals.
  • Working knowledge of systems including but not limited to:
    • DoD and DoS Security Systems and requirements.
    • Access Control and Intrusion Detection Systems such as Lenel, Software House, Milestone.
    • IP CCTV Surveillance Systems such as Milestone.
    • Mechanical and electromechanical locking systems (electronic strikes, locks, mag‑s, etc.).
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Products and Adobe Acrobat.
Physical Demands
  • Travel Requirements: Varies, but expected travel exceeds 75%.
  • Must be able to reach, climb, stoop, and kneel up to 75% of the time.
  • Repetitive motion, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, hearing, and visual acuity (depth perception).
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Move between work sites as needed.
  • Repeat motions involving wrists, hands, and fingers.
  • Operate in extreme temperature and noise conditions.
  • Travel away from home for periods including weekends.
Travel and Work Locations

Position is based in Colorado, Arizona, or Nevada, but may travel to other regions as needed.

Typical Work Schedule

Monday – Thursday (4x10 hr) schedule, with flexibility for paid overtime if approved and requested. Travel with the team to the next location on Fridays.

Additional Pay

Overtime if required and approved, and per‑diem.
