Job summary

SA-TECH, a DoD contractor, is seeking an Electronics Technician Maintenance III at Naval Base Point Loma in San Diego. You will maintain shipboard and ground electronics across NBPL vessels and support fleet operations.

You will install systems, operate WAN/LAN, radios, and encryption devices, and interpret schematics using standard test instruments, with occasional overtime to meet mission needs. Must be a U.S.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Graduation from an accredited trade school, applicable military service or proven performance gained through experience.
  • Knowledge of military operations is highly desirable.
  • Understanding of circuits, using industry standard test instruments and independent judgment.
  • May be expected to work outside normal hours of operations as mission/fleet support requirements dictate.

Pay Info: $40.29/hr plus $7.50/hr (Health & Wellness through the Union)

At Naval Base Point Loma (NBPL), SA-TECH provides O&M support for home-ported Range Support Crafts (RSC) vessels. Located on the Point Loma peninsula in the city of San Diego, NBPL is a major U.S. Navy base, housing over 70 tenant commands, including submarines, a floating dry dock, and various other military units.

The RSCs provide fleet training support for the Southern California Tactical Training Range (SCTTR) in the San Clemente Island Range Complex (SCIRC) W-291 area.

SA-TECH is seeking to hire a Electronics Technician Maintenance III for a variety of vessels at NBPL to maintain electronic equipment onboard vessels.

Specific duties include (but are not limited to):

  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on shipboard and ground electronics.
  • Install commercial off the shelf marine systems and specialized systems with no supervision.
  • Operate and maintain WAN/LAN network equipment, HF/UHF/VHF Radios, and encryption devices.
  • Manufacture, repair, and install coaxial and electrical and data cables and connectors.
  • Apply basic and advanced technical knowledge to solve routine problems by interpreting manufacturers' manuals, schematics or similar documents.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Work Conditions:
  • Will work ashore and afloat on the RSC vessels.
  • Overtime is required; may be expected to work outside normal hours of operations as mission/fleet support requirements dictate.
  • Vessels may stay out at sea and not return to port multiple days in a row (occurs frequently).
  • Operations are conducted in a variety of weather conditions and sea states.
  • Normal shipboard physical activity is required, including frequently moving and positioning objects weighing 50 lbs. or more.
  • Must be available while boat(s) in port to support maintenance and operational preparedness.
Requirements
Education/Experience/Skills
  • High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Graduation from an accredited trade school, applicable military service or proven performance gained through experience.
  • Knowledge of military operations is highly desirable.
  • An understanding of the interrelationships of circuits, exercising independent judgment in performing such tasks as making circuit analysis, calculating wave forms, and tracing relationships in signal flow, using industry standard test instruments.
  • Work efficiently and effectively in a dynamic, fast paced, small team environment.
  • Employ proper and professional interpersonal skills interacting with and assisting engineers, technicians, and other personnel.
  • May be expected to work outside normal hours of operations as mission/fleet support requirements dictate.
  • Maintain office information systems and be familiar with Microsoft Windows and Linux environments; proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
  • Ability to frequently move and position objects weighing 50 lbs.
  • Must be available while boat(s) in port to support maintenance and operational preparedness.
  • Working knowledge of Marine Navigation Electronics, RADAR, and NMEA network configuration.
  • Current Driver’s License required; must be able to be insured through company’s vehicle insurance policy while driving work/government/rental vehicles during working hours, and for the duration of employment.
  • U.S. Citizenship required and you must be able to obtain a U.S. DoD Secret Security Clearance prior to hire date and maintain a SECRET clearance throughout employment.
  • All candidates will be required to pass background screening to include SSN, Driver Record, and Criminal Background Investigation.
