Job summary

FirstEnergy is seeking an Electronics Technician Jr to support installation, testing and maintenance of electronic equipment for voice and data transmission. The role includes fieldwork, bench tasks, and closeout paperwork under supervision, with potential progression through junior to higher technician levels.

Candidates should hold an Associate Degree in Electronics or equivalent, with ISCET certification within four years, and a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Requires an Associate Degree in Electronics or equivalent military/education, or 3 years of electronics technician experience.
• Must obtain and maintain an ISCET Associate or Journeyman certification within four years.
• Familiarity with tagging rules and safety procedures is required.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Assist higher classified personnel in installation, troubleshooting, testing, calibration and maintenance of electronic equipment for voice and data transmission.
• Investigate customers’ radio and television interference complaints.
• Perform routine bench work on electronic equipment.
• Make field corrections to prints and prepare field sketches and reports.
• Carry out paperwork needed for task preparation and closeout.
• May work in the field alone with a helper, following instructions and observing safety procedures.

Under close supervision and as assigned; and under general supervision or direction and as assigned, performs work on alltypesofelectronicequipmentforwhichtheyhavesuccessfullycompletedanyoftheJobSkill Demonstrations.

• Assist higher classified personnel in the installation, troubleshooting, testing, calibration and maintenance of all types ofelectronic equipment used for both voice and data transmission such as two-way radio, microwave radio, fiber opticsystems and leased telephonecircuits.Also included in Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition, protective relaying andDCsystems.

• Assistsintheinvestigationofcustomers’radioandtelevisioninterferencecomplaints.

• Performsroutinebenchworkonalltypesofelectronicequipment.

• Makesfieldcorrectionstoprintsandpreparesfiledsketchesandreports.

• Must have an Associate Degree in Electronics from a college or Technical Institute or have equivalent Military and Education, or have three years of recent experience as an electronics technician and must have a valid Associate Level orJourneyman Level ISCET Certification earned within the past four years from the date of posting

• Must become familiar with the Company Tagging Rules and qualify to be placed on the Company’s tagging list and must becomefamiliarwiththeCompany’sSafetyRules, methodsofresuscitationand beabletorenderpracticalfirstaid.

• Mustpossessandmaintainavaliddriver’slicense.

• As an Electronics Technician Jr. must complete six months but not more than two years of service in the Electronics Technician Jr. classification and must successfully complete Job Skill Demonstrations to progress to the next higher position of Electronics Technician

• Failure to successfully complete the requirements for advancement within 2 years will result in reassignment within the jurisdiction of the local union to an entry level position or any vacancy that has not been filled through posting for which he/she is qualified and will be restricted from bidding into the Electronics AMP until he/she has satisfactorily remediedthoseareasofdeficiency.Theaffectedindividualshallremaininhis/hercurrent classificationuntilsuchavacancyexists.
