Job summary

FirstEnergy is seeking an Electronics Technician Jr. to perform hands-on work on electronic equipment across voice and data transmission systems. Under supervision, you will assist in installation, testing, calibration, and maintenance, with field duties as required.

The role includes bench work, creating reports, field corrections to prints, and documenting task completion. A valid driver's license and an ISCET certification earned within the last four years are required.

Qualifications

• Associate Degree in Electronics or three years of related experience, or equivalent Military/Education.
• Must have an ISCET certification earned within the past four years.
• Must possess a valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Operate and troubleshoot electronic equipment used for voice/data transmission.
• Assist higher classified personnel with installation, testing, calibration, and maintenance.
• Investigate customers' radio/TV interference issues and document findings.
• Perform routine bench work and prepare field sketches and reports.
• Make field corrections to prints and update documentation.
• Complete paperwork for assigned tasks and progressions within the role.

About the Opportunity

• Under close supervision and as assigned; and under general supervision or direction and as assigned, performs work on all types of electronic equipment for which they have successfully completed any of the Job Skill Demonstrations.
• Assist higher classified personnel in the installation, troubleshooting, testing, calibration and maintenance of all types of electronic equipment used for both voice and data transmission such as two-way radio, microwave radio, fiber optic systems and leased telephone circuits. Also included in Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition, protective relaying and DC systems.
• Assists in the investigation of customers' radio and television interference complaints.
• Performs routine bench work on all types of electronic equipment.
• Makes field corrections to prints and prepares filed sketches and reports.
• Performs paperwork necessary for preparation and closeout of assigned tasks.
• May be required to work in the field alone or with a helper of equal or lesser classification performing work of a simplified nature, providing he/she is familiar with or has received proper instruction, such as observe and manually initiate the signal associated with all communications channels, in conjunction with higher classified personnel at the opposite terminal of the channel.
• Perform other related or lesser skilled duties for which he/she is qualified or has received proper instruction or direction.

Requirements

• Must have an Associate Degree in Electronics from a college or Technical Institute or have equivalent Military and Education, or have three years of recent experience as an electronics technician and must have a valid Associate Level or Journeyman Level ISCET Certification earned within the past four years from the date of posting.
• Must become familiar with the Company Tagging Rules and qualify to be placed on the Company's tagging list and must become familiar with the Company's Safety Rules, methods of resuscitation and be able to render practical first aid.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
• As an Electronics Technician Jr. must complete six months but not more than two years of service in the Electronics Technician Jr. classification and must successfully complete Job Skill Demonstrations to progress to the next higher position of Electronics Technician.
• Failure to successfully complete the requirements for advancement within 2 years will result in reassignment within the jurisdiction of the local union to an entry level position or any vacancy that has not been filled through posting for which he/she is qualified and will be restricted from bidding into the Electronics AMP until he/she has satisfactorily remedied those areas of deficiency. The affected individual shall remain in his/her current classification until such a vacancy exists.
