GENERAL SUMMARY:

Performs electrical work on U.S. Navy shore facilities, waterborne vessels, surface ships and/or submarines. Tasks will be related to inspections, repairs, modernization and/or alterations.

POSITION LOCATION:

Seattle, WA

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Performs troubleshooting and/or testing of various electrical systems, circuits, controls, instruments, and equipment, onboard military shore facilities, Navy ships/vessels to include submarines and/or ship’s components and documents test requirements.
  • Possesses ability to install and test Analogue to Digital interfaces, Programmable Logic Controllers, and other electronic devices.
  • Qualified as a fiber optics technician with the ability to install, connect, and test fiber plant equipment.
  • Qualified as a fiber quality assurance technician.
  • Conducts voltage and other electrical safety checks.
  • Repairs electrical equipment such as motors, switches, radios, appliances, control panels, starters, navigation lights, and lighting equipment.
  • Performs connections/hook-ups to panels, switches, and boxes.
  • Proficient in pulling cables in cableways and bulkhead and deck stuffing tubes and dressing Multi Cable Transits (MCTs) and Multi Cable Penetrations (MCPs).
  • Has the experience and capability to be certified for fabrication of multiple pin connectors.
  • Assists Team Lead in identifying discrepancies in drawings.
  • May supervise a large team of electricians.
  • Fill out objective quality evidence (OQE) forms.
  • Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
  • Provides work leadership and technical training to lower-level technicians.
  • Employees may be required to travel to work to other locations.

Language Ability:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to communicate with OSIC and government officials.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills:

Must possess intermediate computer skills to enter data into different databases.

Education/Experience:

Must have completed a formal related course of study in trade through either a community college, technical or trade school, military training, formal company training program or an apprentice program and must have 10+ years of verifiable experience as an electrician in an industrial environment i.e., shipbuilding, ship repair, or nuclear power plants.

Certificates and Licenses:

Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check and obtain and maintain a security badge for all military installations and civilian shipyards.

  • Must have the ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, written technical instructions and manuals, make working diagrams, circuits, electrical systems, circuits, controls, instruments, and equipment.
  • Must possess working knowledge of shipboard operating requirements.
  • Must be able to read and understand material safety data sheets (MDS).
  • Must understand Navsea standard items.
  • Able to follow safety procedures.
